Preface
This volume provides reference material on environmental review and
consultation requirements that should to the fullest extent possible be
conducted concurrently with or integrated with the Department of
Energy’s NEPA review process, as provided by 40 CFR 1502.25(a).
The focus is on requirements that the Department is responsible for
fulfilling, either in consultation with another agency or through its
own independent review and analysis. This volume does not include
environmental regulatory requirements that are implemented by permit
programs administered by agencies such as the Environmental Protection
Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers.
In all cases, consult with the agency responsible for a law and its
implementing regulations or check www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/
to verify that regulations are still current or to obtain an updated
version. The DOE Office of Environment has posted additional
